Porterville College New Student-Athlete Checklist

Welcome to Porterville College and congratulations on taking the first steps in becoming a Pirate. Student-athletes are one of the highest achieving student body populations on campus. We are more than just a college - We are a Community! Below is a new student-athlete checklist that will help guide your successful transition to Porterville College.

1. APPLY

Porterville College is using a new application called Open CCCApply. All applicants starting Summer/Fall 2016 (and later) will have to establish new log on credentials for this application.

NOTE:  These log on credentials created with your CCC Application cannot be used to log on to Banweb, the student registration portal. Once you complete your CCC Application, you will receive a confirmation email that contains a link to complete the application process where you will be prompted to create credentials that will generate a Student ID and PC email.


2. PC ONLINE ORIENTATION

Orientation provides entering students with a brief overview of college policies, programs and services. You must have your student ID that is generated with the completion of your CCC Application.

3. MATH AND ENGLISH PLACEMENT

 You must have a Math and English placement on file with Porterville College. Your placement results must be available prior to meeting with the Athletics Counselor. There are multiple ways to receive a Math and English placement:

For High School Graduates:
 
  • Most students take the PC Assessment Test in Math and English through our Student Success and Support Program. Schedule your assessment appointment by calling 559.791.2329. Please bring your picture identification at the time of assessment. Persons without valid identification will not be allowed to test.
  • Some students receive their Math and English placement through successful completion of The Early Assessment Program (EAP) (for California residents only).
  • Graduating high school seniors can also bring their high school transcripts as an additional measure to place them in the appropriate Math and English classes.

For Transfer Students:

  • If you have taken these tests at any other community college, you can email or fax those results to the Athletic Counselor to receive PC Math and English placement.
  • If you have successfully completed Math and English courses at another college, please bring those transcripts with you for correct Math and English placement at Porterville College.

4. FINANCIAL AID

  • Apply for federal financial aid by completing your FAFSA online.
  • You can contact PC’s Financial Aid Office for additional assistance at (559) 791-2301.
  • AB540 students should apply for the CA Dream Act.
  • Scholarships are also available and additional information can be found on the Scholarship Webpage.

5. MEET WITH THE ATHLETIC COUNSELOR

You must meet with the Athletics Counselor to create a Student Educational Plan that provides you with a road map of the classes you will need to take based on your intended major. In order to plan appropriately, you MUST have your placement results or unofficial/official copies of your high school transcripts or those transcripts from any previous institutions attended when you arrive for your appointment. Please contact Leah Camarena at (559) 791-2426 to schedule your counseling appointment. The Athletic Counselor is located in the Financial Aid Office-AC-103.

6. REGISTER FOR CLASSES

Classes at Porterville College fill up quickly, so please make registration a high priority and please register for the courses that the Athletic Counselor has given you. You can register for classes through InsidePC! Make sure to receive priority registration by completing the assessment, orientation and educational plan.

7. OFFFICAL TRANSCRIPTS AND TEST SCORES

  • Send official high school transcripts to PC, NCAA & NAIA Eligibility Centers.
  • Transfer students send official college transcripts to PC, NCAA and NAIA Eligibility Centers. 
  • Send any Advanced Placement (AP) test scores (3 or higher) to the Admissions & Records Office at PC.

8. NCAA & NAIA ELIGIBILITY CENTER

  • If you have goals of transferring and competing at an NCAA Division I or II institution, you MUST create an account with the NCAA Eligibility Center.
  • Every student-athlete who will attend an NAIA School or who will potentially attend an NAIA School must create an account with the NAIA Eligibility Center. 

9. STUDENT ATHLETE ORIENTATION

Attend mandatory face-to-face Student Athlete Orientation no later than the second week of the start of every semester. You will receive further information from your Coach regarding the day and time of this orientation.
