Freshman Isaiah Moscorro put together his finest day at the plate this season for the Pirates, going 3 for 4 in Porterville College's 10-5 loss to West Hills College Coalinga in the opening game of a three-game Central Valley Conference series on Tuesday.

Game 2 is set for Thursday (Mar. 14) at 2 p.m. in Coalinga with the finale scheduled for Saturday (Mar. 16) at 1 p.m. back in Porterville.

Tuesday's contest was close for the first three innings. The Falcons got to PC starter Nico Portillo for a run in the top of the first while the Pirates manufactured a run thanks to a lead-off single by Leeland Crawford, a pair of stolen bases by Crawford, and a wild pitch by West Hills' starter Hank Chen.

But the Falcons went ahead for good with a three-run rally in the fourth and added single runs in the sixth and seventh to take a commanding 6-1 lead.

Porterville didn't go down easy and got RBI singles from Brandon Dodd and Moses Garza in the seventh to score runs. And in the eighth, Moscorro smacked a two-run single to drive in Justin Turner and Chris Brandon.

Jacobe Vargas (2 for 5, 1 R) and Leeland Crawford (2 for 4, 2 SB, 1 R) both had two hits each for the Pirates. Portillo took the loss after allowing five runs and 10 hits over five innings.

Tuesday's defeat dropped Porterville to 1-20 overall and 0-4 in Central Valley Conference play.
