Porterville escapes Merced with one-point victory

Carlos Angel and Elijah Cardenas both scored 20 points while Elijah Mascorro grabbed 15 rebounds to all help lead Porterville College to a narrow 76-75 win at Merced College on Saturday.

The Central Valley Conference victory snapped the Pirates' six-game losing streak and improved their record to 7-14 overall and 2-6 in the CVC.

Three-point shooting proved to be the difference in win for the Pirates as they nailed 10 shots from downtown. Cardenas led PC, making 4 of 6 three-point attempts. Jonah Ruckman also played a key role in the victory, as he came off the bench to contribute 17 points and six rebounds.

PC returns to action on Wednesday (Jan. 31) when it travels to Cerro Coso College for a conference game.
