Cardenas leads Pirates in rout of West Hills Lemoore

Elijah Cardenas led Porterville College in scoring for the second straight game, this time putting up 18 points, to help pace the Pirates to a 115-62 win over visiting West Hills College Lemoore on Monday night.

Porterville's third straight win improved their Central Valley Conference record to 7-3 and 12-9 overall.  

The first half of the contest was close as Porterville took a 10-point advantage into the locker room at the break. But the Pirates poured it on in the second, outscoring West Hills 65-22. West Hills (0-23, 0-11 CVC) turned the ball over 26 times in the contest thanks in part to 18 steals by PC.

Porterville was also impressive from beyond the three-point arc. The Pirates nailed 10 three-pointers on the night, including four from Treager Wallace on his way to 16 points.

Kenton Lei also scored 16 points while Tayshawun Bradford added 15 points. Also contributing to the win off the bench were Da'Morea Green with 13 points and 7 rebounds as well as Alsonso Valle with 13 points. Dominic King chipped in with 8 points, 7 assists, 6 steals, and 5 rebounds.

The Pirates currently sit in fourth place in the CVC standings, just a half game behind College of the Sequoias in third at 8-3 and one game back of second-place Columbia College at 8-2. Porterville next plays at COS on Wednesday (Feb. 6) at 5 p.m. in a big conference game.
