No. 26 state-ranked Porterville College saw its four-winning streak come to an end on Thursday with a narrow 75-71 loss at Bakersfield College. The Pirates suffered just their second defeat of the season and dropped to 6-2 overall.

PC got on the board first but Bakersfield (4-3) went on to outscore the Pirates 14-4 over the first five minutes of the contest. Porterville responded with a 13-3 run of its own to tie up the game at 17-17, but the Renegades went into halftime 44-31 advantage.

A late-game surge narrowed the gap in the second but Porterville couldn't complete the comeback.

Alberto Laureano came off the bench to lead the Pirates with 20 points. Isaiah Josue added 17 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists while Quame Smith contributed 14 points.

Julio Phipps had a good game with 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 blocks.

The Pirates are back in action on Saturday (Dec. 4) when they host Cañada College in a 3 p.m. non-conference game.
