Angilau (2 HRs) powers Porterville to sweep at Oxnard

Porterville College freshman Kuea Angilau went a combined 5 for 8 with a pair of home runs and 5 RBI to help lead the Pirates to a doubleheader sweep at Oxnard College on Saturday. PC has won four straight and improved to 5-1 overall this season.

Angilau greeted Oxnard starting pitcher Jayleen Moon with a two-run home run in the top of the first inning in the opening game to give PC a quick 2-0 lead.

Oxnard got a run back in the bottom of the first before Raquel Gonzalez walked with the bases loaded in the fourth to force in a run. With Porterville up 3-1, Oxnard scored again in the fourth to get back within one.

In the fifth, Auzia Mosley smacked a RBI double for the Pirates and once again the Condors came right back to score in the bottom of the frame. Leading by one, Chelsea Ramos added an insurance run with an infield single to close out the scoring.

Angilau went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI and also scored twice to lead PC at the plate. Ramos was 2 for 4 with a run and RBI while Nicole Nakanishi also had two hits (2 for 3).

Alexis Rodriguez went the distance for the Game 1 win. She allowed three runs and 11 hits but struck out eight Oxnard batters.

The Pirates put the second game of the doubleheader out of reach early, rallying for three runs in the top of the first.

Angilau smacked a RBI single, Mosley doubled to bring in a run, and Maddison Martinez added a run-scoring single to give PC a 3-0 lead.

Leading 3-1, Angilau put an exclamation point on the win with a two-run home run in the top of the seventh.

Ashley Eyraud also tossed a complete game for Porterville. A passed ball allowed the lone Oxnard run to score in the second inning as Eyraud scattered six hits and struck out three.

Porterville returns to action on Friday (Feb. 15) when the Pirates travel to Modesto Junior College for a 3:30 p.m. non-conference game.
