After a slow start to the season at the plate, Porterville College sophomore Chelsea Ramos is starting to heat up. The returning All-American went a combined 5 for 8 at the plate with a pair of home runs and 8 RBI to lead the Pirates to a doubleheader split at Moorpark College on Saturday.

Ramos was nearly perfect in the opening game, smacking a pair of doubles and a two-run home run as part of a 3 for 4 effort at the plate in a 10-4 Porterville loss to the Raiders.

She followed that up by driving in five runs in PC's 11-1, five-inning victory in Game 2. Ramos came up big with a grand slam as part of a seven-run, third-inning rally for the Pirates. She also added a RBI double in the fifth.

Freshman Kuea Angilau also had a productive game at the plate in the win for the Pirates. She launched a solo home run and added a RBI double.

Winning pitcher Alexis Rodriguez allowed just one run and four hits in the complete-game, five-inning effort.

Ashley Eyraud wasn't as fortunate in the opener. She was the victim of four Porterville errors as just two of the 10 runs she allowed were earned.

With the split, Porterville's overall record moved to 6-2 this season. The Pirates return to action on Friday (Mar. 1) when they travel to Hartnell College in Salinas for a non-conference doubleheader. Game 1 is scheduled for a 12 p.m. start.
