Angilau, Ramos power up in doubleheader sweep at Hartnell

Freshman Kuea Angilau smashed three home runs and drove in eight runs while sophomore Chelsea Ramos had seven hits and 4 RBI over two games to help lead Porterville College to a doubleheader sweep at Hartnell College in Salinas on Friday.

The Pirates took the opener by a final score of 15-1 in five innings and beat the Panthers 11-4 in Game 2 to improve to 8-2 overall this season.

Angilau smacked her first home run, a three-run shot in Game 1. But it was Ramos that stole the show by going a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate with a home run, double, and 3 RBI.

Annisa Gomez added to the power surge with a home run and 4 RBI. Alexis Rodriguez earned the win with the complete-game effort. She allowed one run and five hits with three strikeouts.

Porterville continued their offensive attack, as Angilau smacked two more home runs as part of a 2 for 4 day at the plate. She walked once, scored two runs, and had 5 RBI.

Ramos reached base in all five plate appearances. She went 3 for 3 with three doubles, two walks, and scored four runs.

Shantae Gutierrez also had a good game at the plate, going 3 for 5 with two runs and a RBI.

Ashley Eyraud got the Game 2 win, tossing all seven innings while allowing three earned runs and nine hits.

Porterville has now won three straight and will look to keep the winning momentum going on Saturday (Mar. 2) when they will face Cabrillo College in a doubleheader at Cal State Monterey Bay.
