Porterville wraps up Monterey Bay trip with losses to Cabrillo

A two-day trip to the Monterey Bay started well for Porterville but ended on Saturday with a pair of losses to Cabrillo College. The Pirates were swept in a non-conference doubleheader, falling by scores of 9-3 and 9-4 at the Cal State Monterey Bay Softball Field in Seaside.

Porterville exploded for 26 runs over a doubleheader sweep at Hartnell College on Friday but were tamed by the Cabrillo pitching duo of Miranda Janisch and Brianna Lamb.

The Pirates were limited to three runs and six hits in the opening-game defeat. Cabrillo was up 4-2 before rallying for five runs in the fifth to put the game out of reach.

Kuea Angilau, who had homered in five straight games, was finally held in the park. She went 2 for 3 with a double and RBI to lead the Pirates at the plate. Alexis Rodriguez went the distance in the loss, allowing nine runs and nine hits.

Annisa Gomez, Auzia Mosley, and Chelsea Ramos all hit home run in Game 2, but Cabrillo erased a 4-0 Porterville lead with a six-run, fourth-inning to go ahead for good.

Ramos went 2 for 2 with a walk to lead the PC offense. Ashley Eyraud took the loss after allowing seven earned runs and 14 hits in the complete-game effort.

Porterville went 2-2 over the weekend and is now 8-4 as the Pirates head into Central Valley Conference play. They are scheduled to host Cerro Coso in a CVC doubleheader on Tuesday (Mar. 5), starting at 1 p.m.
