Porterville can’t overcome slow first half in loss to West Hills Lemoore

Sierra Perez led Porterville College with 16 points but a dismal first half derailed the Pirates in a 74-43 loss to visiting West Hills College Lemoore on Saturday at PC.

The Central Valley Conference loss dropped the Pirates to 2-19 overall and 0-8 in conference play.

Porterville was down 14-8 in the first quarter before West Hills put the game out of reach by outscoring the Pirates 14-4 in the second. PC went into the locker room at halftime trailing 28-12.

Perez also added five rebounds and three assists in her effort. Maria Lopez nearly had a double-double wit 12 points and nine rebounds while Kathy Rodriguez chipped in with 10 points, five boards, and three steals.

Up next, the Pirates will host Fresno City College on Wednesday (Feb. 7) in a 5 p.m. conference game.
