Tough week for Porterville as Pirates drop two CVC matches

A rough week for the Porterville College women's volleyball team saw the Pirates suffer a pair of three-set losses. On Wednesday, Porterville fell on the road at Taft College while on Friday, PC lost at home to visiting College of the Sequoias.

Sophomore Madysen Clower and freshman Juliet Garcia both totaled 9 kills each over the two matches to lead the Pirates on offense.

The pair of losses dropped Porterville to 3-10 overall and 1-7 in conference play. The Pirates will look to snap a seven-match losing streak on Wednesday (Oct. 10) when they travel to West Hills College Coalinga for a 6 p.m. contest.

Taft 3, Porterville 0
The Pirates couldn't stop Taft's attack and dropped the Central Valley Conference match by scores of 25-8, 25-12, and 25-11.

Garcia's 5 kills led PC while Emily Baeza added 4 kills and Clower posted 3 kills. Derica Ferris chipped in with a team-best 8 digs and 2 aces. Maggie Zanazzo paced the offense with 12 assists.

Sequoias 3, Porterville 0
PC played a similar match on Friday with a similar result. The Pirates couldn't get momentum going and lost another conference match by scores of 25-7, 25-15, and 25-8 in Porterville.

Clower was PC's top player on offense in the contest with 6 kills with Garcia and Baeza adding 4 kills each. Ferris came up with 7 digs and Zanazzo totaled 10 assists.
