Pirates suffer pair of three-set conference losses

It was another tough week for the Porterville College women's volleyball team.

Coming off a thrilling five-set victory over West Hills College Lemoore on Oct. 12, the Pirates had a much more difficult time last week and suffered consecutive Central Valley Conference losses to Fresno City College and College of the Sequoias.

Freshman Juliet Garcia totaled 10 kills over the two matches to lead the PC offense.

Fresno 3, Porterville 0
The Pirates knew they would have their hands full in hosting No. 9 state-ranked Fresno City College on Wednesday. FCC wasted little time and handed Porterville a 25-15, 25-7, 25-10 loss.

Porterville totaled just 16 kills in the match but also made 13 attack errors.

Madysen Clower led the Pirates with 6 kills while Garcia posted 4 kills and 2 blocks. Derica Ferris had a team-best 9 digs and Maggie Zanazzo totaled 16 assists.

Sequoias 3, Porterville 0
The Pirates hit the road on Friday for a CVC match at College of the Sequoias in Visalia but unfortunately came home with a 25-10, 25-13, 25-9 defeat.

Garcia had a team-best 6 kills while Clower had 4 kills. Ferris once again led PC with 7 digs and Zanazzo posted 13 assists.

The losses dropped Porterville to 4-14 overall and 2-11 in conference play. The Pirates will look to halt their slide on Wednesday (Oct. 25) at 6 p.m. when they host Reedley College in their annual Dig Pink match.
