It was a tough day for the Porterville College women's volleyball team. Competing at the Modesto Classic tournament, the Pirates suffered a 3-1 loss to host Modesto Junior College and were handed a 3-0 defeat by Solano College.
After dropping the opening set to Modesto, PC rallied back to take Set 2 but ultimately lost by scores of 19-25, 25-15, 25-9, 25-12.
Sophomore Paige Borges and freshman Victoria Dabney led the Pirates' offense with six kills against Modesto. Jordan Castaneda had a team-high 20 assists while Keilani Regaspi had six digs to lead PC.
Porterville couldn't get much going offensively against a deep Solano squad, falling by scores of 25-12, 25-15, 25-16 to close the day.
Errors hurt the Pirates as they committed 13 attack errors compared to just 11 kills. Dabney once again paced Porterville with four kills while Castaneda had six assists and Regaspi posted five digs.
Porterville fell to 0-3 overall and will look for its first win next Friday (Sep. 10) when the Pirates will play a pair of matches at Los Medanos College in Pittsburg. PC faces host Los Medanos at 1 p.m. followed by a 3 p.m. match against Sacramento City College.
