PC still in search of first win after losses at Los Medanos

The Porterville College women's volleyball team came close to picking up its first win of the 2021 season, but was edged 3-2 in a marathon match against Sacramento City College. This came after a 3-1 loss to host Los Medanos College in Pittsburg on Friday.

PC lost the first two sets against Sacramento City, then rallied to win the next two before ultimately falling in the fifth. Match scores were 22-25, 17-25, 25-23, 25-20, 15-9. Freshman Victoria Dabney had 7 kills and 6 digs to lead the Pirates while sophomore Paige Borges totaled 7 kills, 5 aces, and 4 blocks.

The Pirates' match against Los Medanos got off to a good start with PC taking the first set. But Los Medanos responded by winning the next three for the 22-25, 17-25, 25-23, 25-20, 15-9 match victory.

Borges had a big match against Los Medanos, lead PC with 9 kills and 7 blocks (3 solo). Dabney and freshman Katelyn Phillips both chipped in with 7 kills each.

Setter Jordan Castaneda had 20 assists in each match.

Porterville will look to reverse its 0-5 start when the Pirates return to action on Saturday (Sep. 11). They are scheduled to play a pair of matches at the Napa Valley Classic and will face host Napa Valley and College of the Redwoods.
