Pirates close out week with losses to Sequoias, Cuesta

A tough week of play came to a close for the Porterville College women's volleyball team with consecutive losses by the Pirates at home to College of the Sequoias on Friday and Cuesta College on Saturday.

Wednesday's scheduled Central Valley Conference match against Reedley was postponed.

The Pirates had a tough time with state No. 13-ranked Sequoias, falling 3-0 by scores of 25-14, 25-13, and 25-12 in the CVC match.

PC managed just 19 kills in the contest and committed 23 attack errors. Sophomore Victoria Dabney led the Pirates with 6 kills to go along with 4 digs. Davina Lopez added 4 kills and a pair of blocks while Rilynn Fien totaled 11 assists and 4 digs.

Porterville put up a bigger fight against Cuesta but ultimately lost the non-conference match 3-1. Cuesta took the match by scores of 25-12, 23-25, 25-22, and 25-15.

Reyna Ennis played well for PC as she totaled a team-high 9 kills and added 11 assists, 2 aces, and a pair of digs.

Lopez posted 6 kills and Fien led the Pirates with 13 assists.

The Pirates are 6-10 overall and 3-3 in Central Valley Conference play as they head into next week's action. PC plays at Taft College on Wednesday (Oct. 12) at 6 p.m.
