Sophomore Kuea Angilau went 2 for 2 with a pair of RBI while freshman Ally Boyd went the distance in the circle to help lead the Porterville College softball team to a 5-2 Central Valley Conference win over visiting Taft College on Thursday.

The Pirates improved to 2-0 in conference play and are 6-11 overall while Taft dropped to 1-11 and 0-3 in the CVC.

After two scoreless innings, the Pirates finally got to Taft starting pitcher Gillian Hale. PC put up two runs in the third, two more in the fourth, and scored a final run in the fifth to close out the victory.

Boyd was cruising and appeared to be on her way to a shutout, but a Porterville error led to a pair of unearned runs in the top of the seventh. She scattered 8 hits and had 2 strikeouts over the 7 innings.

Angilau hit a double and walked as well as scored a run in a productive day at the plate. Veronica Bosquez hit a double and scored a run while Sayra Sanchez drove in a run as part of a 1 for 2 day with a walk.

Hale took the loss despite totaling 10 strikeouts. She allowed 5 runs (4 earned) and just 4 hits over 6 innings. Hale also went 3 for 4 from the batter's box.

The Pirates return to action on Tuesday (Mar. 10) when they travel to Fresno City College for a CVC doubleheader that starts at 1 p.m.
