PC hosts signing day event for 5 transferring student-athletes

PORTERVILLE – Porterville College honored its five student-athletes that signed letters of intent to continue their academic and athletic careers at four-year universities with a signing ceremony on campus on Monday. Davina Lopez (women's volleyball), Abigail Hines (women's volleyball), Taylor Norman (softball), Kayla Ponting (softball), and Nick Segura (baseball) were joined by family, friends, coaches, teammates, and department staff inside the PC Gymnasium.

Lopez has signed with Bluefield University in Bluefield, Virginia. Lopez, a Porterville High School grad, was a first-team All-Central Valley Conference selection this past fall after earning second-team honors as a freshman in 2022. From the middle blocker position, Lopez was first on the 2023 Pirates with 204 kills and 87 total blocks over 28 matches.

After just one season at PC, Hines is taking her talents to La Sierra University in Riverside. Hines put together a solid freshman season for the Pirates this past fall and was named second-team All-CVC. A middle blocker, she totaled 185 kills and 52 blocks. Hines is originally out of Clovis East High School in Clovis.

Norman is headed to Park University in Gilbert, Arizona. She recently wrapped up her sophomore season for the PC softball team, batting .344 with a .439 on base percentage. As a freshman in 2023, Norman was named second-team All-CVC. The outfielder is originally from Altamont, Utah where she attended Altamont High School

Ponting, a two-year member of the softball team, has signed with the University of Dubuque in Dubuque, Iowa. Ponting brings versatility to the next level after having played pitcher, first base, second base, and outfield for the Pirates this recent spring. Ponting came to Porterville from Arvada, Colorado and Pomona High School.

Segura is off to Midland University in Fremont, Nebraska after a two-year baseball career at PC. Segura closed out his freshman season hitting .350. This spring, the outfielder has totaled 22 hits and 16 RBI. Segura is from Las Vegas, Nevada and attended Faith Lutheran High School.
