PC ranked No. 13 in preseason poll, open season Wednesday at Hancock

After an impressive first season for new head coach Amaurys Fermin, the Pirates are back and looking for more.

Porterville put together one of its all-time best seasons in school history in 2021-22. PC opened the year by winning eight of its first 10 games and surged into the postseason on an eight-game winning streak.

The Pirates won 20 games for the first time in over 20 years and finished in second place in the Central Valley Conference with a 10-4 mark. Porterville made its first playoff appearance since 2003 and closed the season with a 20-8 overall record, advancing to the second round of the Northern California Regional Playoffs.

The road back to the postseason begins tonight (Wednesday) as the Pirates open the 2022-23 season at Allan Hancock College. Opening tip is set for 5 p.m., the game will be live streamed by AHC on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nl_Q288E98A.

Porterville, who was the North's No. 12 seed for last year's NorCal playoffs, will begin 2022-23 ranked No. 13 in the California Community College Men's Basketball Coaches Association (CCCMBCA) North Preseason Poll.

PC will be tested early, facing South No. 10 Allan Hancock. Then next Tuesday (Nov. 8), the Pirates travel to Orange County to take on South No. 1 Fullerton College. That is followed by a Nov. 10 contest at No. 7 North-ranked San Jose City College.

Porterville makes its home debut on Nov. 18 when it hosts the two-day Milt Stowe Classic. The Pirates are play 11 games at home this season.
