Porterville College totaled a season-high 11 hits, but couldn't come away with a win and lost its Central Valley Conference opener at Reedley College by a final score of 6-2 on Tuesday.

The three-game CVC series continues on Thursday (Mar. 7) in Porterville at 2 p.m. with the finale set for Saturday (Mar. 9) at 1 p.m. back in Reedley.

The Pirates were looking to win consecutive games for the first time this season and fell behind early against the Tigers. Reedley scored twice in the second but PC got back in the game thanks to RBI singles by Isaiah Moscorro (pictured) in the fourth and sixth innings to tie up the score at 2-2.

But Reedley responded in the bottom of the frame with two runs to go ahead for good and added two more in the eighth to put the game out of reach.

Nico Portillo pitched well despite getting saddled with the loss. He allowed three earned runs and seven hits over 6 2/3 innings. He struck out four and walked three.

Moscorro went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI while Moses Garza went 4 for 5 to lead the Pirates. Justin Turner scored both runs for PC.

The loss dropped Porterville to 1-17 overall and 0-1 in CVC play.
