Impressive 2019 season ends with 5-1 playoff loss at Delta

A memorable 2019 season for Porterville College came to a sudden close following the No. 14-seeded Pirates' 5-1 loss at No. 3 San Joaquin Delta College in Game 2 of their California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Northern California Regional Playoff series. With its narrow 3-2 win in the opener on Friday, Delta advances to Round 2 with the 2-0 series victory.

Saturday's contest was close early on as Porterville starting pitcher Alexis Rodriguez held the potent Mustang offense scoreless for four innings. But Delta finally broke through in the top of the fifth (PC was the designated home team for Game 2 of the playoffs), rallying for all five runs.

Trailing 5-0, the Pirates scored their lone run in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a RBI single by Kassy Cervantes.

Kuea Angilau and Anissa Gomez both went 2-for-3 to lead PC at the plate.

Rodriguez took the loss after allowing five runs and 10 hits over 4 1/3 innings. Ashley Eyraud closed out the contest throwing 2 2/3 scoreless innings.

Porterville made its first postseason appearance in over 20 years and closed out the season with a 24-17 overall record. PC finished fourth in the Central Valley Conference at 12-9.
