Women's Basketball: Jackson posts double-double in loss to Merritt

Porterville College sophomore Denisheun Jackson posted a double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Pirates in a 71-62 loss to Merritt College in Day 2 of Merced College Coca-Cola Shootout tournament. The consolation bracket defeat eliminated the Pirates from the tournament.

Porterville held a narrow 38-36 halftime advantage but was outscored 35-24 over the final two quarters.

Jackson posted her second consecutive double-digit scoring game but was even more effective on the boards. Sophomore Lauren Beath also had her second solid game, as she scored 18 points and added seven rebounds.

Sophomore Sydney Tobias chipped in with 11 points and seven rebounds while freshman Maria Ramirez came off the bench to score six points. Beath, Tobias, and Ramirez all sank a pair of three-pointers to total six for the Pirates on the night.

Porterville, now 0-2 overall, returns to tournament action next Friday (Nov. 18) at 7 p.m. when the Pirates will take on Imperial Valley College at the Barstow College tournament.
