Women's Basketball: Jackson scores 22 in conference opener at West Hills

Sophomore Denisheun Jackson dropped a game-high 22 points but Porterville College couldn't overcome a rough night shooting as the Pirates lost their Central Valley Conference opener 65-54 at West Hills College-Lemoore on Wednesday.

Porterville made just 22 of 80 shots (28 percent) from the field and was 5 for 26 from three-point range. The Pirates trailed by eight points, 29-21, after two quarters and couldn't complete a second-half comeback.

Jackson added six rebounds and two steals to her 22 points while Lauren Beath chipped in with 10 points and six rebounds. Sydney Tobias also had a good all-around game with eight points, four rebounds and four assists.

Porterville, now 3-12 overall and 0-1 in the CVC, returns to action on Saturday (Jan. 7) when the Pirates host Reedley College in a 7 p.m. conference game.
