Women's Basketball: Jackson continues scoring streak, Pirates fall at COS

Sophomore forward Denisheun Jackson scored 20+ points for her fourth consecutive game as her 24 points accounted for over half the Pirates' scoring in an 81-46 loss at College of the Sequoias on Saturday night.

The Central Valley Conference loss dropped Porterville to 3-14 overall and 0-3 in conference play. Sequoias, ranked No. 2 in Northern California, improved to 16-3 overall and 3-0 in the CVC.

A 14-0 run by Sequoias midway through the first quarter put the game out of reach early as COS turned a narrow 6-4 advantage into a commanding 20-4 lead. Jackson's jumper at the 6:03 mark in the second quarter cut the COS lead to seven points at 27-20. But the Pirates would get no closer for the remainder of the contest. Porterville couldn't slow down Sequoias and the Giants took a 45-24 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Jackson came up two rebounds short for a double-double as she grabbed a team-best eight boards to go with her 24 points. Kayla Nunez, Lauren Beath, and Rosario Herrera all added six points each.

Porterville will look to snap its six-game losing streak on Wednesday (Jan. 18) when the Pirates return home to host Taft College in a 7 p.m. CVC game.
