Women's Basketball: Porterville can't keep up with No. 6 COS

Sophomore Denisheun Jackson scored in double-figures for her 23rd consecutive game but Porterville College couldn't keep up with No. 6 state-ranked College of the Sequoias as the Pirates fell 86-57 at home in a Central Valley Conference game.

The loss dropped Porterville to 4-19 overall and 1-8 in the CVC while the conference-leading Sequoias Giants moved to 22-3 and 9-0.

Porterville put up a good fight early and trailed just 20-13 after the first quarter. But the Pirates' lack of depth hurt them as they entered just one sub into the game while Sequoias had nine players come in off the bench.

The Pirates were down 43-31 at halftime before COS put the game out of reach by outscoring Porterville 27-9 in the third quarter.

Jackson once again paced Porterville with 24 points to go along with five rebounds and four steals. Lauren Beath also chipped in with 16 points, five rebounds, and five assists.

Porterville has just three games left in the regular season and is next at Taft College on Saturday (Feb. 11) for a 6 p.m. conference game.
