Women's Basketball: Pirates close season with loss at Merced

A tough 2016-17 Porterville College women's basketball season finally came to an end on Saturday as the Pirates suffered an 81-48 loss at Merced College. Porterville ends with a 5-21 overall record and finished 2-10 in Central Valley Conference play.

Porterville trailed 41-31 at halftime before Merced outscored the Pirates 24-6 in the third quarter to put the game out of reach.

Sophomore Denisheun Jackson closed out her Porterville College career by scoring 16 points. She accomplished an impressive feat by scoring in double digits in all 26 games this season.

For the season, Jackson averaged a double-double and led the Central Valley Conference with 20.1 points and 11.2 rebounds per game. Her 20.1 PPG ranked No. 8 state-wide while her 11.2 RPG was 13th.

Also playing in their final games as a Pirate, sophomore Lauren Beath scored a team-high 18 points while sophomore Sydney Tobias chipped in with 11 points.
