Porterville College Women's Volleyball falls in three at Taft

Freshman Heidy Benitez totaled a team-high 10 digs while Porterville College couldn't get much going offensively in a 3-0 loss at Taft College on Wednesday night. The Pirates lost the Central Valley Conference match by scores of 25-17, 25-23, and 25-16 to drop to 5-9 overall and 2-3 in conference play.

Porterville couldn't keep the momentum going after rolling to a sweep on Friday at Columbia. In Wednesday's loss, the Pirates hit just .096 for the match while totaling 21 kills.

Sophomore Shelby Vanasen had 10 of those kills for the Pirates to lead her squad and also added 8 digs. Sophomore Kendyl Estes chipped in with 5 kills, 6 digs, and 2 blocks while Brandy Rico led PC with 13 assists.

With the win, Taft improved to 5-9 overall and 3-1 the CVC. The Cougars were led by Virginia Salanoa-Sagapolu's 12 kills.

Tonight was the fifth match of eight straight on the road for the Pirates. Porterville returns to action on Friday (Sept. 30) when the Pirates travel to face Fresno City College at 6 p.m.
