Porterville College Women's Volleyball rolls to sweep of Columbia at home

Sophomore Shelby Vanasen had a match-high 11 kills as the Porterville College Women's Volleyball team wasted little time in sweeping Columbia College at home on Wednesday. The Pirates cruised to easy 25-9 and 25-6 wins over the opening sets before being pushed 25-23 in the third to complete the straight-set Central Valley Conference victory at Porterville High School.

Vanasen's 11 kills nearly matched Columbia combined team total of 13 on the night. Porterville hit .368 for the match while making just five attack errors.

Callie Albison had another strong defensive match as she totaled double-digit digs for the fourth consecutive contest. Her 15 digs led all as the Pirates had 50 in the win.

Kendyl Estes chipped in with seven kills and Brooke Reilly had six kills while Brandy Rico paced the offense with a match-high 28 assists. Ashlynn Miller also contributed off the bench with four aces and four digs.

Columbia (2-16, 0-11 CVC) was led by Chelsea Wertz' six kills. She added five digs and two blocks in the losing effort.

The win improved Porterville to 9-12 overall and evened its CVC record at 6-6. The Pirates next host Taft College on Friday (Oct. 28) in a 6 p.m. conference match at Porterville High School.
