Women's Volleyball: Porterville snaps losing skid with win over Cerro Coso

Sophomore Josie Lopez came off the bench to post 12 digs and two aces to help lead the Porterville College Pirates to a 3-1 Central Valley Conference victory over visiting Cerro Coso College on Wednesday at Porterville High School.

 The Pirates won by scores of 25-10, 25-13, 21-25, and 25-13 to snap a two-match losing streak and improve to 10-14 overall  and 7-8 in conference play.

Sophomore Shelby Vanasen totaled 12 kills to lead the PC offense while adding 12 digs. Sophomore Kendyl Estes posted 10 kills and sophomore setter Brandy Rico paced the Pirates with 32 assists.

From the back line, sophomore Callie Albison had her seventh consecutive match with double-digit digs. She had 14 for the night and added three aces. Sophomore Gretchen Doyel also chipped in with a team-high three blocks and two kills.

Just one match remains for Porterville as the Pirates close out the 2016 season at home on Friday (Nov. 11) against Reedley College. Porterville will also honor its seven sophomores who will be playing in their final match as a Pirate.
