Women's Volleyball: Porterville wraps up 2016 season

The Porterville College women's volleyball team ended the 2016 season on a sour note as the Pirates suffered a 3-0 loss to visiting Reedley College on Friday night at Porterville High School. The Pirates dropped the Central Valley Conference match by scores of 25-20, and 25-21 before pushing Reedley to a 31-29 third-set.

Prior to the contest, Porterville College honored and thanks its seven sophomores playing in their final match as a Pirate.

The dynamic duo of sophomores Shelby Vanasen and Kendyl Estes once again led the Pirates' offense. Vanasen slammed home 15 kills to go along with 10 digs while Estes had 14 kills, five digs, and three blocks.

Sophomore Callie Albison closed out her PC career with an impressive streak. Her match-high 27 digs gave her double-digit digs for eight consecutive contests. Also, sophomore Brandy Rico totaled 31 assists and 12 digs in her Porterville finale.

Despite ending with a loss, it was a definite year of improvement for second-season head coach Holly Franks and the Pirates. PC closed 2016 with a 10-15 overall record and went 7-9 in the Central Valley Conference to finish in 5th place. Just a year ago, Porterville won just three matches and went 3-15 overall and 3-11 in conference play.
