Porterville College sophomore Ashlynn Miller totaled a match-high 15 digs in the Pirates' 3-1 loss at West Hills College Coalinga in both teams' Central Valley Conference opener on Wednesday. PC dropped the match by scores of 26-24, 15-25, 25-23, and 25-19 to fall to 2-4 overall.
The Pirates controlled most of Set 1, and led 24-19, before the West Hills rallied to score the final six points to win 26-24. West Hills carried the momentum and cruised in Set 2, taking a 2-0 lead.
Porterville battled back in Set 3, winning 25-23, but WHCC managed to regain command in Set 4 and closed the match with a 25-19 victory.
Miller and sophomore Broklynne Beavers did all they could to keep Porterville in the match. Beavers led PC with 10 kills and added four digs. Freshman Emerald Harris had a good all-around match with five kills, five digs, and three solo blocks while sophomore Brooke Reilly totaled a team-best 15 assists to go with five digs and two blocks.
Brittany Dias led West Hills (5-5 overall) with 14 kills.
Porterville returns to action on Friday (Sep. 15) when the Pirates travel to Reedley College for a 6 p.m. CVC match.
