Women’s Volleyball: Pirates drop CVC matches to Reedley, Sequoias

It was a rough week at home for the Porterville College women's volleyball team. After snapping a 10-match losing streak on Friday the 13th, the Pirates couldn't keep that momentum going. On Wednesday, PC suffered a 3-1 loss to Reedley College and fell 3-0 to College of the Sequoias on Friday.

The setbacks dropped Porterville to 3-14 overall and 1-10 in Central Valley Conference play with just five matches left on the 2017 schedule.

Porterville surprised the Tigers, taking the opening set on Wednesday's match 25-23. But Reedley woke up and took the next three by scores of 25-15, 25-16, and 25-23 to send Porterville to the loss.

Emerald Harris continued her excellent play with a team-best 11 kills to go along with eight digs. Brooklynne Beavers added eight kills and 10 digs while Jasmine Torres led PC with 16 digs.

Rylee Jones was impressive with six aces and 12 digs while Brooke Reilly also had a good all-round match with a team-best 23 assists, four digs, and two solo blocks.

Sequoias 3, Porterville 0
Offense was tough to come by for the Pirates as they lost in a sweep by scores of 25-19, 25-18, 25-10 to COS on Friday night.

Porterville totaled just 19 kills in the match. Beavers led with seven while Harris added six. Jones led all with 17 digs and Reilly totaled 15 assists.

After playing their last four contests at home, Porterville hits the road for its next conference match at Merced College on Wednesday (Oct. 25) at 6 p.m. PC is back home next Friday (Oct. 27) to host Cerro Coso College at 5 p.m.
