Pirates win two at Ohlone Renegade Classic

FREMONT – The Porterville College women's volleyball team is trending in the right direction after a tough start to the 2023 season.

After opening with four consecutive losses, the Pirates might have righted the ship after winning both of their matches at the Ohlone College Renegade Classic on Friday.

Porterville opened the day with a 3-1 (21-25, 25-21, 25-17, 25-22) victory over host Ohlone and followed that with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-10, 25-15) sweep of City College of San Francisco to close out the tourney.

Freshman Aliza Bun led the offense as she totaled 24 kills over the two matches, including a season-high 15 kills against San Francisco.

Sophomore Davina Lopez had 20 kills on the day, getting a team-high 11 kills vs. Ohlone. Freshman Noelani Espiritu had a season-best 20 digs in the Ohlone win while sophomore Reyna Ennis had assists of 32 vs. Ohlone and 35 against CCSF to pace the PC offense.

Porterville, now 2-4, returns to action on Friday (Sep. 8) when they return to Northern California to compete at the Skyline College Classic in San Bruno. The Pirates are schedule to face host Skyline, San Francisco, and College of the Redwoods in non-conference matches.
