Pirates earn 3-1 conference win at Merced

MERCED – After dropping the opening set of its Central Valley Conference match at Merced College on Friday, the Porterville College women's volleyball team rallied to win the next three to bring home a 3-1 victory.

The Pirates dropped Set 1 17-25 before storming back to win 28-26, 25-23, and 25-22.

PC had a big match defensively as the Pirates totaled 81 digs in the contest. Amber Joy Dela Cruz led the way with 22 digs, Reyna Ellis (match-high 31 assists) and Noelani Espiritu both had 16 digs each, while Brandi Flores chipped in with 14 digs.

Offensively, the Pirates received 10 kills from Natalie Duran and 9 kills from Abigail Hines.

The victory improved Porterville to 7-9 overall and 1-2 in Central Valley Conference play. PC is back in action on Wednesday (Sep. 27) when it hosts West Hills College Coalinga in a 6 p.m. conference match.
