Porterville closes regular season on three-match winning streak

PORTERVILLE – Porterville College made one final push towards a possible postseason playoff berth, winning its final three matches of the regular season, including a 3-0 sweep of Columbia College in its finale on Friday at home.

The 25-16, 25-14, 25-16 win over Columbia improved the Pirates to 14-15 overall while PC finished fifth in the final Central Valley Conference standings at 8-8.

Davina Lopez and Abigail Hines led the offense with 7 kills each, Amber Joy Dela Cruz totaled 7 digs, and Reyna Ennis had a team-high 12 assists.

On Wednesday, the Pirates opened the week with another sweep, this time beating Reedley on the road 25-13, 25-22, 25-19.

Once again, Lopez and Hines paced the offense. Lopez totaled a match-high 12 kills and Hines came through with 9 kills. Noelani Espiritu led PC with 17 digs and Ennis had 14 assists.

Porterville winning streak began with a 3-1 win over West Hills College Lemoore on Nov. 3. PC took the match by scores of 25-12, 14-25, 25-18, 25-22.

Espiritu had a huge match, leading the Pirates with 12 kills and 19 digs. Hines and Aliza Bun added 8 kills while Ennis totaled 28 assists.

Porterville will look to receive an at-large bid into the Northern California Regional Playoffs. Brackets are scheduled to be announced on Thursday.
