Baseball struggles against Allan Hancock

The Porterville College baseball team lost both games of a doubleheader at Allan Hancock College on Saturday.

This latest setback means the Pirates have lost nine of their past 11 games after beginning the campaign 4-3.

Porterville was shut out 4-0 in Game 1. The Pirates managed just three hits, not nearly enough to help starting pitcher Gilbert Ortega. The sophomore went three innings and struck out four.

Allen Hancock recorded seven hits.

The results were the same in the second game, a 13-3 Porterville loss. The Pirates recorded 10 hits but committed four errors.

Shortstop Pedro Aguirre and first baseman Vance Lopez each collected two hits for Porterville.

The Pirates held a 1-0 lead after the first inning when Nick Haskins scored on an error by the catcher. They didn't score again until the eighth inning when they were down 13-1.

Porterville dropped to 6-12 overall and will visit Taft College on Tuesday for a Central Valley Conference game.
