The Porterville College baseball team won 14-0 at West Hills Coalinga on Thursday, breaking a five game losing streak.
The 14 runs for the Pirates was a season high, and it was only the second time this season Porterville shut out an opponent; the first time was during a 4-0 win over Siskiyous on Jan. 29.
The Pirates churned out 17 hits, which were also a season high.
Miguel Federico finished 3-5 with two RBIs. Brandon Lozano, Gilbert Ortega, Vance Lopez, Nicholas Festa, Marcos Alvarez and Pedro Aguirre each recorded two hits. Xavier Salas went 1-3 with three RBIs.
"That's Pirate baseball," head coach Ben Walkowiak said.
Sophomore pitcher Edgar Reyes pitched a complete game while only allowing five hits and four walks. He had eight strikeouts as well. He improved to 5-5 on the season.
Porterville improved to 8-18 overall and 4-10 in Central Valley Conference play. The Pirates will finish the series with West Hills on Saturday at home at 11 a.m.
