Baseball: Wasden smacks two home runs in PC loss at Barstow

Sophomore first baseman Dane Wasden (pictured) launched a pair of home runs and drove in all four runs for Porterville College but the Pirates were still outhit by Barstow College and suffered a 14-4 non-conference loss on the road on Tuesday.

Barstow (4-6 overall) banged out 21 hits in its win while poor defense plagued the Pirates as they totaled eight errors in the contest that led to eight unearned runs.

Wasden's solo home run in the top of the first gave Porterville an early 1-0 lead, but that didn't last long as Barstow responded with four runs of its own in the bottom of the first.

Wasden added a sacrifice fly that scored Christian Sanchez in the third while his two-run home run in the fifth scored Moses Garza and tied up the ball game at 4-4.

Once again, Barstow would respond with a run to take the lead for good in the bottom of the frame. The Vikings blew the game open with a seven-run, seventh-inning to put the game of reach.

PC totaled nine hits in the contest, getting two each from Wasden, Garza, and Marcos Alvarez. Jordan Grader took the loss for the Pirates as he allowed five runs (four earned) and 13 hits over six innings.

Porterville, now 2-11 overall, will look to snap its eight-game losing streak on Thursday (Feb. 23) when the Pirates host Barstow at 2 p.m.
