Baseball: Pirates snap streak with 11-2 win at Antelope Valley

Freshman shortstop Jose Narvaiz had a day at the plate to remember. The lead off batter paced the Porterville College offense going 4 for 6 while scoring four runs scored and driving in three to help lead the Pirates to an 11-2 win over the Antelope Valley College Marauders in Lancaster on Monday.

The non-conference victory snapped PC's 18-game losing streak.

Porterville banged out a season-high 17 hits in cruising to the victory. While Narvaiz led with four, the Pirates got three hits each from Fritz Bowers (3 for 5, 2 runs) and Christian Sanchez (3 for 4, 2 runs). Jordan Szolek went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI while Moses Garza drove in three runs. Of the 17 hits, just one, a double by Narvaiz, went for extra bases.

PC jumped on Antelope Valley starting pitcher Andrew Garcia early, getting three runs in the top of the first and adding two more in the second to take a 5-1 advantage. The Pirates scored a single run in the fourth before putting the game out of reach with three runs in the sixth and two final runs in the seventh.

Just as impressive as the Pirates' hitting was the effort by Jordan Grader on the mound. He went the distance and scattered six hits while allowing just one earned run. Grader struck out three and walked one.

Porterville, now 4-30 overall, will look to keep the momentum going on Tuesday (Apr. 11) when the Pirates travel to LA Pierce College for a 2 p.m. non-conference game.
