Pirates drop two-game Southwestern College series

A tough start to the 2018 season continues for the Porterville College baseball team as the Pirates suffered consecutive losses at Southwestern College in Chula Vista. On Friday, PC fell 6-1 and came home following a 14-2 defeat on Saturday.

The Pirates totaled eight hits over the two ball games, getting just three in Friday's setback. Eric Loredo smacked a RBI double that drove in Ryan Pearce for Porterville's lone run in the fourth inning.

Jhared Gonzalez scattered 11 hits over 6 ⅓ innings for PC but allowed just two earned runs in the start. He struck out seven.

Porterville had a tougher time in the series finale. Southwestern led 3-0 scoring single runs in the second, third, and fourth innings before PC answered with two runs in the fifth. Pearce hit a RBI single and Loredo was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in a run that cut the SWC advantage to 3-2.

But the Jaguars blew the game open with a big six-run rally in the bottom of the fifth to put the game out of reach.

Andrew Vivanco took the loss, allowing six runs (five earned) and nine hits over four innings.

Porterville, now 0-10, will look to snap its losing streak when the Pirates return to action on Friday (Feb. 16) as they host Ohlone College in a 10 a.m. doubleheader.
