Porterville College totaled five hits but was able to come up with four runs in a 6-4 non-conference loss to visiting Barstow Community College on Tuesday.

PC's early-season struggles continue as the Pirates fell to 0-13 overall.

A four-run, fourth-inning rally by Barstow essentially sealed the win for the Vikings. They also added a run in the top of the first and scored again in the sixth off Porterville starting pitcher Alfredo Vasquez. He allowed all six runs (five earned) and 10 hits over 5 1/3 innings.

Isaiah Gomez (2 for 3, 1 run) had a pair of hits to lead PC at the plate while Andres Garza (1 for 3) drove in two runs with a triple in the bottom of the sixth.

Jared Hews (pictured) pitched well in relief for the Pirates as he tossed 3 2/3 scoreless innings to close out the game. He allowed just one hit and struck out four.

Porterville will look to snap its losing streak when the two squads face off again on Thursday (Feb. 22) at 2 p.m. in Barstow.
