Porterville takes tough loss from Fresno City

Jose Narvaiz and Jared Hewes both had two hits each to lead Porterville College on a dismal day for offense in the Pirates' 18-1 loss to visiting Fresno City College on Thursday.

PC totaled six hits in the contest and managed a lone run in the bottom of the first inning. Andres Garza reached first to lead off the frame via error and moved to second on a passed ball. Another passed ball allowed him to advance to third before Nicolas Portillo's sacrifice fly to center drove him in to give PC the 1-0 advantage.

But the lead was short-lived. Fresno City scored five runs in the second and rallied for six more runs in the third to put the game out of reach.

Starter Andrew Vivanco took the loss after allowing 11 runs and nine hits over two innings.

Porterville, now 0-18 overall and 0-2 in Central Valley Conference play, closes the three-game series with FCC on Friday (March 9) in Fresno at 3 p.m.
