The Porterville College Pirates learned early on that it might be a rough day. First, due to poor field conditions, the second game of their Central Valley Conference series with Reedley College was moved from Pirate Stadium to Reedley. And with Reedley as the official visitor, the Tigers put up eight runs in the top of the first inning on their way to an 18-1 victory over the Pirates.

It was an outing Porterville starting pitcher Alfredo Vasquez would like to forget. He lasted just two innings, but gave up 11 runs and 11 hits to take the loss.

Malik Johnson (pictured) and David Trotta were the lone PC pitchers that did not allow a run. Johnson tossed two innings while Trotta closed out the game in the ninth.

The Pirates scored their lone run in the bottom of the eighth. Derek Steidly II drew a lead-off walk and advanced to second and third base on consecutive wild pitches. Two batters later, Leeland Crawford hit a RBI single bring in Steidly.

Porterville totaled just five hits in the ball game with Brandon Dodd and Chris Brandon both going 2 for 4 to lead the Pirates.

The loss dropped PC to 1-19 overall and 0-3 in conference play. The Pirates and Tigers close out the CVC series on Saturday (Mar. 9) at 1 p.m. in Reedley.
