Pirates secure sweep of West Hills Coalinga with 9-5 win

PORTERVILLE – Johnny Reed went 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles and 2 RBI while Justice Loflin drove in 3 runs to help lead Porterville College to a 9-5 victory over visiting West Hills College Coalinga on Saturday to close out a three-game sweep of a Central Valley Conference series.

The Pirates opened the set with a 5-3 win at home on Tuesday and followed with a 10-9 victory in Coalinga on Thursday. PC improved to 4-7 in Central Valley Conference play and 9-10 overall.

Saturday's contest was close until late. The Pirates rallied for 4 runs in the bottom of the eighth to secure the win. Dom Cortez also had a big game with 3 hits, 2 runs, and 1 RBI.

Jimmy Martinez earned the win in relief while Christian Trejo picked up a two-inning save.

On Tuesday, the Pirates used a four-run rally in the bottom of the third to fuel the win. Cortez and Nick Segura had a pair of hits while Loflin came through with 2 RBI.

Bradley Cooper was solid in the start. Going 6 innings while allowing 2 runs and 4 hits for the win. Jonah Ward closed it out for the save.

PC exploded for a six-run outburst in the top of the fourth inning that proved to be the difference in Thursday's road win. Loflin and Koda Larsen both drove in 3 runs each to lead the offense.

Porterville will look to keep the winning streak going on Tuesday (Mar. 19) when the Pirates open up another three-game conference series against Fresno City College.

PC hosts FCC on Tuesday at 2 p.m., Game 2 is set for 3 p.m. in Fresno, with the finale back in Porterville on Saturday at 1 p.m.
