PORTERVILLE – Nicholas Torres fired an eight-inning shutout while the Porterville College offense scored 10 runs while recording just two hits to earn a 10-2 victory in Game 2 of a non-conference doubleheader against visiting Barstow Community College on Saturday.
The win came after the Pirates dropped the opener to the Vikings by a final score of 7-3 earlier in the afternoon.
Game 1: Barstow 7, Porterville 3
PC led 3-0 after five innings but couldn't hold on as Barstow totaled seven runs over its final four frames to take the opening game.
Louie Torres put together another impressive start for PC in a no decision. He struck out 11 batters over six innings while allowing just one earned run and a pair of hits.
Jimmy Martinez and Luis Alcantar hit RBI-singles while Xavier Trolio stole two bases.
Game 2: Porterville 10, Barstow 0 (8 inn.)
A four-run, eighth-inning rally led to the 10-run mercy-rule win. PC had just two hits but totaled 11 walks and took advantage of three Barstow errors, five wild pitches, four balks, and a pair of hit batters.
Colton Isom smacked a two-run double for the big blow in the eighth. Jonah Ward also drove in a pair of runs.
Porterville evened up its overall record at 2-2. The Pirates are back in action on Tuesday (Feb. 4) when they host Sacramento City College in a 1 p.m. non-conference game.
