Historic win for PC over COS, 64-63

Led by 15 points and 8 rebounds from F Leonard Herring, the Porterville Pirates defeated the COS Giants 64-63 in a Central Valley Conference contest Saturday night.  The Pirates took a 14 point advantage into halftime, but Sequoias would not lay down.  Led by Dida Pereira's 22 points, the Giants took a 5 point lead late in the game, but couldn't seal the deal.  PC went on a 6-0 down the stretch, capped off by 2 free throws from G Travis Flagg with 22 seconds to go.

COS had an opportunity to win the game from the free throw line, but missed both opportunities.  An offensive rebound gave them one more two more shots, but a 3 pointer missed long, and a desperation shot at the buzzer sailed well over the rim.

This is the first victory for Porterville over COS in 20 attempts.  The last victory came in 2004-2005, when Coach Rob Haynes was a player at PC.

The Pirates head out on the road this Wednesday, January 20th, to take on Columbia College.  Tip time for that game is 6pm.
