Men's Basketball: Porterville wraps up action at San Jose Tournament

The Porterville College Pirates are still in search of their first win after closing out the San Jose City College Tournament on Saturday. PC suffered a 69-60 loss to Monterey Peninsula College on Friday and wrapped up the weekend in the Bay Area with a 72-65 loss to Foothill College on Saturday.

In the loss to Monterey, Porterville trailed 30-22 at halftime before playing the Lobos much closer in the second half. PC shot 55 percent from the field, making 22 of 44 attempts but was outrebounded by a 38-30 margin.

Freshman Malik McCowan led Porterville in the loss with 23 points. He was the lone Pirate to score in double figures as freshmen Carlos Angel and Arthur Price both poured in nine points each.

Porterville couldn't hold a first-half lead and dropped its third game of the tourney with the loss to Foothill. The Pirates led 33-24 at the break before getting outscored by Foothill 48-32 in the second.

 McCowan once again led Porterville, scoring 12 points. Angel added 10 points while Price was the closest to a double-double with seven points and eight rebounds.

Porterville, now 0-3, returns to tournament action on Thursday (Nov. 10) when the Pirates will compete at the two-day Victor Valley College Tournament. PC will face Riverside City College to open play then will square off against Bethesda University's JV team on Friday.
