No. 29 Porterville knocks off No. 4 Columbia 68-59

PORTERVILLE --- Facing No. 4 state-ranked Columbia College for the second time in three days, No. 29 Porterville College came away with the upset, beating the Claim Jumpers 68-59 on Wednesday. But on Monday, it was Columbia coming out on top by a final score of 86-70 in Sonora.

Facing the same opponent just days apart might have worked out in the Pirates' favor as they were able to make adjustments on the court.

The Pirates got out to an early lead and built a 10-point advantage (35-25) at halftime. Columbia narrowly outscored Porterville in the second, but the deficit was too much to overcome.

Alberto Laureano came off the bench to score a team-high 15 points to go along with 6 rebounds. Quame Smith nearly had a double-double with 11 points and 9 rebounds while Chirrag Sidhu chipped in with 13 points.

Sidhu put together another solid game on Monday against Columbia, as he led PC with 21 points. Cameron Walker added 16 points and 4 assists while Laureano totaled 10 points and 5 rebounds.

Porterville improved to 13-7 overall and 4-4 in Central Valley Conference play. The Pirates return to action on Saturday (Feb. 5) when they travel to West Hills College Lemoore for a 3 p.m. conference game.
