Pirates get No. 12 seed for NorCal Playoffs, earn 9 All-CVC awards

A historic season for the Porterville College men's basketball team continues this week as the Pirates were named the No. 12 seed for the upcoming Northern California Regional Playoffs. They travel to face No. 5 Las Positas College for a Round 2 playoff game on Thursday, March 3 at 7 p.m. in Livermore.

Ticket prices for the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) postseason game at "The Nest" at Las Positas College are $12 for general admission and $8 for all identified students, faculty, staff, senior citizens age 60 and over, and children under 12 years old.

Porterville put together one of its all-time best seasons in school history under first-year head coach Amaurys Fermin. The Pirates are 20-7 overall and took second place in the Central Valley Conference with a 10-4 mark. Porterville is making its first playoff appearance since 2003.

Las Positas, led by head coach James Giacomazzi, enters the playoffs with a 25-3 overall record and finished second in the Coast Conference North Division standings at 12-2. The Hawks are making their fifth straight postseason appearance.

The winner of Thursday's game will advance to Round 3 to face either No. 4 Columbia College or No. 13 San Joaquin Delta College on Saturday, March 5. Two wins are needed by the Pirates to advance to the CCCAA Basketball State Championships on March 11-13 at nearby West Hills College Lemoore.
