PORTERVILLE – It was a solid week of basketball for Porterville College as the Pirates look to get into the thick of the Central Valley Conference standings.
On Wednesday, PC snapped a three-game losing skid with an impressive 62-55 victory over No. 13 state-ranked Columbia College. And the Pirates followed that with a 70-62 triumph over Reedley College on Saturday to even up their conference record at 3-3 overall.
Against Columbia, Porterville held the Claim Jumpers to just 21 points in the first half and was able to hang on for the win. Julio Phipps posted his second double-double of the season, leading the Pirates with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Quincy White totaled 9 points and 7 rebounds while Cameron Walker contributed 7 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists.
On Saturday, it was Jake Abrams turn to pace the Pirates as he scored a game-high 13 points. Phipps (9 points, 8 rebounds), Assad Madassalia (9 points, 6 rebounds), Jaden Pena (9 points), and White (9 points, 5 rebounds) all played key roles in the win.
Porterville, now 9-11 overall, returns to action on Wednesday (Jan. 25) when the Pirates travel to West Hills College Coalinga for a 6 p.m. Central Valley Conference game.
