PC finishes sixth at Bakersfield Invitational, Weaver leads women

Led by freshman Rafael Hurtado's 22nd place showing, the Porterville College men's cross country team totaled 158 points to finish in sixth place at the Bakersfield College Invitational on Friday.

Hurtado cleared the four-mile course at the Kern County Soccer Complex in Bakersfield with a time of 23:44. He was followed by freshman Angel Roman in the top 50 as he clocked in at 25:58 to finish in 41st place.

In the women's 5K competition, Porterville had just two competing at the meet. Freshman Irelynn Weaver (pictured, below) ran the 5000-meter course in a time of 28:55 to finish in 28th place. She was immediately followed by teammate Arlette Rodriguez. The fellow freshman was 29th, clearing the course in 29.01.

Both the Porterville College men and women will take a week off until their next action. The squads compete next at the Moorpark College Race and Roar on Oct. 11.
